Oh Man Chul  Solo Exhibition

Art Plus Gallery × Sugino Gallery Exchange Exhibition
Sugino Gallery, Ginza, Tokyo
April 24–27, 2025

Exhibition Overview

Oh Man Chul: Solo Exhibition was presented in Ginza, Tokyo, from April 24 to 27, 2025, as an exchange exhibition between Art Plus Gallery and Sugino Gallery.

The exhibition introduced the distinctive ceramic painting practice of Oh Man Chul, a Korean artist who has developed a unique artistic language by bringing together ceramics and painting.

With more than five decades of artistic practice, Oh Man Chul has held 56 solo exhibitions and participated in approximately 300 group, special, and curated exhibitions in Korea and internationally.

Exhibition Description

Oh Man Chul’s work transcends the conventional boundaries between painting and ceramics. Rather than simply applying images to a ceramic surface, he integrates ceramic form, pigment, glaze, fire, and painting into a single artistic process.

A central motif in his practice is the Korean moon jar, which he reinterprets through contemporary painting. The simple, balanced form of the moon jar becomes a poetic pictorial space where color, nature, memory, and contemplation come together.

The traces created through firing, subtle variations in surface and color, and the interaction between material and image are not accidental elements but essential parts of the artist’s visual language.

Through this exchange exhibition between Art Plus Gallery and Sugino Gallery, Oh Man Chul’s unique ceramic painting practice was introduced to audiences in Tokyo, creating a dialogue between Korean contemporary ceramic art and Japan’s long-standing ceramic and artistic traditions.
